I was unaware of American Music Club until the early 90’s when Mark Terrill— our first European tour manager mentioned them— he’d been touring with AMC for a while. They’d been active just as long as we had but somehow our bands had never crossed paths. On Mark’s recommendation I picked up Mercury and it soon became one of my favorite discs.
After a 10 year break, American Music Club has released a new album (2004) called Love Songs For Patriots on Merge Records. It’s taken a few listens, but I now love it just as much as the old material. Still present is Mark Eitzel’s distinctive voice and lyrics. I hear more of a get-in-a-groove thing coming from drummer Tim Mooney but the songs still move from place to place. There’s more noisy guitar than in the past but it adds to the new sound.
Visit the band’s website for more information and to hear lo-fi streams of the album tracks.
