Here’s a little memory trick (life hack?) that works for me.
Instead of keeping a notebook and a flashlight next to the bed for those middle-of-the-night “brilliant ideas” or ( in most cases for me) the dreams I want to remember, I use a “displaced object” technique. All you need to do when you wake up in the night with the thing you want to remember in your head is to take a book or magazine (or any object) that you might have on your bedside table, and toss it on the floor next to the bed - remembering a key word or phrase that sums up your idea.
When you wake up in the morning, you’ll look at the object—which is “out-of-place”— and then remember (one hopes) why it was placed there. It works (for me) and you won’t annoy your sleeping partner.

I heard of this before. Thanks for reminding me because I had forgotten it…

Heh - I put the “Internet” over there on the floor - so it worked!
