If not using my actual kit, they would most likely be real drums. Soul Rotation was recorded on this odd 32 track Mitsubishi digital machine. It was huge and they shipped it down from NYC to the old "Warehouse" studio on Delaware Ave. A couple of guys had to carry it up a long flight of stairs. At one point we actually tried punching in the whole band - and it worked! Anyway - maybe that had something to do with the sounds on that record. Everybody hates that record but I like it OK. We spent far too much money on it though. When recording with Brian Beattie in Austin, we often used a hodge-podge of drums borrowed from other folks around town. I think they were mine.
